Healthdirect Australia is pleased to announce the appointment of Bettina McMahon to the role of Chief Executive Officer.

Ms McMahon brings to the role significant experience in digital transformation in the health sector and an extensive track record in delivering major reforms in complex regulatory and stakeholder environments.

Prior to joining Healthdirect Australia, Ms McMahon was the Interim Chief Executive Officer at the Australian Digital Health Agency (ADHA), where she had also held roles as the Chief Operating Officer and Executive General Manager for Industry and Government.

Before that, Ms McMahon played a key role in the successful transition of the National e-Health Transition Authority (NEHTA) into ADHA, with a tenure across the two organisations spanning 11 years.

“Healthdirect Australia is widely regarded as one of the most trusted digital health organisations in Australia, a reputation that continues to grow as it supports the Australian Government with the COVID-19 vaccine rollout. I am delighted to join the team at this time and to be part of such a critical program — probably the most important I’ll work on in my lifetime,” says Ms McMahon.

“More broadly, we know COVID-19 has fundamentally changed how we deliver healthcare in this country and I am excited about the important role Healthdirect will play in embedding core infrastructure, such as the National Health Services Directory, to continue to improve the experience of digital health,” she said.

“We are very pleased to welcome Bettina to Healthdirect Australia in such a pivotal year for the organisation. With her exceptional credentials as a senior leader, we look forward to working with her as we enter our next phase in the delivery of virtual health services for the governments of Australia, empowering Australians to manage their health and access the care and support they need,” says Jane Muirsmith, Chair of the Board of Healthdirect Australia.

Ms McMahon holds a Master of Business (IT Management) from The University of Technology Sydney, a Master of Public Policy from the University of Sydney, and a Graduate Diploma in Applied Finance. She is a graduate of the Australian Institute of Company Directors and a Fellow of the Australasian Institute of Digital Health.

She is also a current member of the Industry Advisory Board supporting the UTS Faculty of Engineering and IT to develop and advance global thinkers and innovators in this field.

Ms McMahon will commence as CEO of Healthdirect Australia on 15 March 2021.
