Embeddable health tools
Healthdirect Australia produces a free health widget and clickable buttons for health services and organisations to use on their websites. These provide quick access to the information on health topics and health services that we manage, so organisations don’t need to create and maintain their own content or applications.
The buttons are simple graphics with the relevant link embedded in the code. They can be placed on any website.
Widget
Health Information Search
This widget gives people access to 2,000 pages of health information and resources on the healthdirect website. The content (Opens in new tab) is evidence-based, clinically safe and adheres to our Clinical Governance Framework.
The appearance of the widget is customisable so it can be matched to a host website’s branding for a seamless user experience. Most modern websites recognise the code we provide, and website managers can usually add it to their site without external assistance.
Clickable buttons
The following clickable buttons can be added to any website with a link so that users can directly access the tool on the healthdirect website.
healthdirect Symptom Checker
The healthdirect Symptom Checker (Opens in new tab) is an online tool that allows people to check their symptoms using a simple self-guided triage process. The Symptom Checker will give users health information and advice on what action they should take next, based on the information provided.
Opioid Medicines & Pain Hub
The Opioid medicines and pain hub (Opens in new tab) button can be added to any website. The hub contains information about opioid use and links to the healthdirect Opioid risk indicator (Opens in new tab) which helps people understand their opioid use.
Medicines Search
This button provides access to healthdirect's catalogue of 10,000 medicines (Opens in new tab), which can be used to find information about medicines, including those listed on the Pharmaceutical Benefits Scheme (PBS).
Contraception Options Finder
The healthdirect Contraception Options Finder (Opens in new tab) is a free, evidence-based online tool that helps people explore and compare different contraception methods based on their health, lifestyle, individual needs and preferences. Users can answer a few simple questions to learn about contraception options that may suit them.
Want to add a health tool to your website?
Healthdirect Australia makes these tools available to like-minded organisations but asks that you get in touch with us to request access. This is so we can keep your organisation updated about changes to the tools. We may, at our absolute discretion, exclude organisations from using our widget.
The criteria below are a good indicator of likely approval but are not definitive:
- If your organisation is already an approved Information Partner (Opens in new tab).
- If your organisation is government-funded or not-for-profit.
- If you propose to use the tool in Australia for Australian residents or visitors.
- If your proposed use aligns with Healthdirect Australia’s goal of improving access to health information and services for all Australians.
- If your organisation provides:
- healthcare and/or
- relevant and reliable health information online, reviewed by subject area experts, and/or
- healthcare services or products approved by the Therapeutic Goods Administration.
To request access to the widget or for more information, please email partner.manager@healthdirect.org.au. Please include contact details and a summary of how you wish to use the widget. If approved, Healthdirect Australia will provide instructions on embedding the code.
