Australia's first go-to resource for people navigating an autism diagnosis

Published: 25 February 2022

For decades, one of the most common issues in autism has been the lack of quality information and guidance available to parents, individuals and families seeking and receiving an autism diagnosis.

Thrown into a world of misleading and inaccurate information, people are left feeling helpless, confused and frustrated at a time when they are at their most vulnerable. They spend countless hours and funds seeking the best information and resources that should be readily available in one place.

Autism Awareness Australia is proud to have launched Autism: What Next?, a free digital toolkit and a central hub to help individuals and families navigate the first year following an autism diagnosis.

Autism: What Next? will ensure people have access to the best quality, evidence-based information and resources to empower them to support themselves or their loved ones on the autism spectrum.

My son was diagnosed with autism 22 years ago and sadly not a lot has changed in that time. Families still get that diagnosis and are largely left on their own to fend for themselves and work out what to do next", says Autism Awareness Australia CEO, Nicole Rogerson.

“We have designed this platform to help guide people to the right resources and information, to empower and support them through this time.” says Ms Rogerson.

Co-designed with autistic adults, parents and carers along with many of Australia’s leading clinicians, Autism: What Next? is a free resource, beautifully designed and enriched with lived experience.

All of the writers are either autistic themselves or are parents of children with autism. The website features hours of interviews with people who have travelled the same path. Listen to parents, autistics, leading professionals and clinical experts share their experiences and advice on how to best support yourself or your loved one on the spectrum.
