Content platform

The Healthdirect platform environment is a Federal Government-funded cloud-based secure environment for running bespoke gateways, websites and other technology services. It is built on a variety of open source and commercial products and runs on public cloud infrastructure in Amazon Web Services.

We were one of the first government customers to use public cloud infrastructure having established the platform environment in 2012. In 2015, we became the first public cloud hosted platform environment certified to the Federal Government Information Security Manual standard.

It is built for highly scalable, highly available and customised use cases while maintaining compliance with various Australian Government standards.

It is designed to operate at web scale with a very high level of quality and service levels. It is monitored 24 hours a day, 7 days per week to ensure it can meet its availability targets.

Benefits of our platform environment

Where we identify capabilities as being useful for more than one service, we develop them as generic platform capabilities, allowing this investment to be shared across other services. This ensures the ecosystem becomes richer, affording more capabilities for use without increasing the overall cost base as costs for platform capabilities are shared between tenanted services, including hosting, software licenses and staffing.

Everything within the platform is developed as a web service allowing it to be published as an Application Programming Interface (API). This allows both functionality and data to be surfaced for use throughout the platform or by external parties, including agencies.

The platform also supports the publishing of widgets providing a complete mini-application to third-party websites with a trivial implementation requirement. This allows government services to be integrated into existing third-party sites for the benefit of both parties.

The platform supports a fully customisable content management workflow that can allow for multistage editorial and clinical approval processes. These interactions are supported through a browser-based interface that allows agency staff to participate in content management activities.

We have an experience team which ensures agencies receive service at a quality level they would expect. This avoids agencies having to develop knowledge in all of the products, processes and technologies allowing them to focus on their mission rather than technology.

Security and compliance

Security is part of the culture at Healthdirect Australia and is considered in everything we do.

Our platform is accredited to the Australian Signals Directorate's Information Security Manual Unclassified DLM level and is suitable for all unclassified workloads. All systems are maintained, tested and updated regularly with the latest security patches to safeguard information and provide a high level of service.

Privacy and personally identifiable information are managed under a set of strict security controls and processes to protect the individual's information.

Coupled with our Clinical Governance Framework, we deliver trusted health services across multiple platforms consumers, health professionals and our government shareholders.
